Donny Osmond: America's Favorite 70's Teen Idol

Donny Osmond was born on December 9, 1957 to parents Geaorge and Olive Osmond in Ogden, Utah. He is the seventh of nine children in the family which is 8 boys and 1 girl. All of the Osmond family have a long career, that started out from their humble start singing at barbershop harmony on Main Street Disneyland. Soon after that, Donny and his brothers achieved fame and success around the world as teen idols.

In the early 1970's, when Donny was just a teenager, he and his brothers became the top entertainment sensations in music. The Osmond Brothers, released hits and toured busily around the world. Donny's debut single, "Sweet and Innocent," reached the first top 10 when he was fourteen years old. Donny later went on to sell mega-selling songs like "Go Away Little Girl," "Puppy Love" and "Too Young." Donny along with his sibling group "The Osmond Brothers" dominated the U.K. by storm, which quickly became well known as "OsmondMania" with the result of gaining a'lot of frenzied fans just like the Beatles. Donny Osmond's track "Puppy Love" reached #1 in the U.K. and was a successful selling song single internationally as well.

Donny and his sister Marie Osmond, started a series of duet performances and albums. Some included more top 10 smash hits such as "I'm Leaving It All To You" and "Morning Side of The Mountain." The twosome also went on to host a successful television veriaty show called "The Donny and Marie Show." They are also both on The Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest prime time television hosts. They also add to their awards list The People's Choice Awards.

At the present, Donny does performances at the Las Vegas Flamingo Hotel along with his sister, Marie Osmond. The show first started back in September 2008 and was set to be scheduled only for six months, but since to their surprise the audience response was so strong that the Flamingo as soon as possible requested for a two year extension. Donny and Marie's show was set to continue until October 2010.

In the 80's, Donny battled agaisnt his teeny Bopper image; that even some of his closest friends suggested him to change his name. He then later met English rocker Peter Gabriel in whom the edgier Donny Osmond appeared with his song "Soldier of Love" that was written and produced by Sturken and Rogers. For his great success the song reached way up to the top of the Billboard charts and was awarded the "Top Pop Male Artist of the Year" he continued to prove them with songs like "My Love Is A Fire" and "Sacred Emotion" wich became a top five hit in VH1.

Donny Osmond besides being a great success in music and television he has also donated millinos of dollars throught the years to several charitable organizations like The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Best Buddies, The Children's Miracle Network, and The One Heart Foundation. Donny is also the author of The New York Times Bestseller "Life Is what You Make It" in which in this book he revealed his war with social phobia, an anxiety disorder that not only hurt his career, but his life as well. He also narrated a PBS documentary "Afraid of People" whose major goal was to bring to light this little known phobia to the world's attention.

What is so inspiring about Donny Osmond is that for 5 decades he has been making a positive difference in other people's lives. He has passed the test and proven to the whole world that he is not only the greatest singer and songwriter, but also a caring and compassionate humanitarian. His secret to success is through hard work and dedication that has garnered him with success through the years.
